Dubai: Pay for parking soon via WhatsApp – News

The new payment method is being tested internally and will be introduced in less than two weeks.

Drivers in Dubai will be able to pay for their parking tickets via the WhatsApp social media app over the next two weeks, a senior official said on Sunday.

Ahmed Mahboub, Executive Director of Parking at Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai, said this new payment method is being tested internally and will be rolled out in less than two weeks.

“People will send the same information that they send to 7275. The same content is sent via WhatsApp and then confirmation is requested from the customer. It’s the same method people use for SMS parking. The amount will be deducted from the digital valet service, ”he said.

By using WhatsApp, drivers do not have to pay 30 fils that they pay to UAE telecommunications providers when paying for parking tickets via SMS.

He also pointed out that RTA has improved its smart card which helps find the exact location for the parking ticket.

Bike path monitoring

Meera Al Shaikh, Director of Smart Services at RTA, said RTA is demonstrating the use of AI, data technologies and machine learning capabilities on bike lanes.

“We installed a feasibility study camera on the Nad Al Sheba cycle path to monitor people’s speed, occupancy of the cycle route and whether or not they are wearing a helmet. Over time, we will be placing cameras on different bike lanes in Dubai and using whatever data we collect. The project will be rolled out on the most important cycle paths in the coming months, ”said Al Shaikh.

She pointed out that this initiative aims to raise awareness among cyclists in Dubai.

In a speech at Gitex Global, Meera Al Shaikh said that public transport users can now pay for their Nol tariffs using Huawei’s watch. People who own a Huawei watch can compare their watch to any device that accepts Nol Pay. More than 12,000 retail stores accept the Nol card, ”she said, adding that work on Google and Apple devices was ongoing.
