The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is observed every year on October 17th. It is an opportunity to recognize the efforts and struggle of people living in poverty, a chance for them to make their concerns heard, and a moment to recognize that poor people are the first to fight poverty.

By resolution 47/196, adopted on December 22, 1992, the General Assembly declared October 17 the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty and called on all States to devote the day to presenting and promoting concrete activities related to this, as appropriate in the national context is to eliminate poverty and misery.
