Route 20 bridge reopened to traffic
The New York Department of Transportation announced that Route 20 in West Winfield has reopened after it closed Wednesday for bridge repairs. The construction work continues and the traffic is reduced to one lane.

Boat ramp closes for season
The New York Power Authority has announced that the Hinckley Reservoir jetty dock will be closed for the season starting Monday, September 27th.
The NYPA will also remove the directional and warning buoys from the jetty and overflow of the dam and other areas near their Gregory B. Jarvis Power Plant, the 9,000 kilowatt hydropower plant that spans Oneida and Herkimer counties.
The boat launch pad is scheduled to reopen in May 2022, before the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Auditioning for Miracle on 34th Street
Open Auditions for Miracle on 34th Street will take place Thursday and Friday, September 30th and October 1st at 7pm at the Ilion Little Theater, 13 Remington Ave., Ilion.
Adapted by Mountain Community Theater based on the novel by Valentine Davies, this drama / comedy contains roles for children and adults. The roles include Kris Kringle, a doctor, mother and daughter Doris, and Susan Walker, a doctor, judge and shopkeeper.

Ways and means meeting planned
The Herkimer County Legislature Committee on Ways and Means will meet on Friday, October 1st at 9:30 am in the Legislature Houses in the county office building at 109 Mary Street.
Red Cross blood drive in Mohawk
An American Red Cross blood drive will be held on Tuesday, October 12, at the American Legion Post 25, 43 W. Main St., Mohawk, from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Virtual senior picnic planned
Herkimer County will sponsor a virtual senior picnic on Wednesday, October 20th. Due to COVID-19, the district cannot hold a personal picnic.
Anyone over the age of 60 interested in attending the virtual picnic can register for a free barbecue meal by calling Michele at 867-1152 by October 13th. The meals are at one location in Herkimer and one in Alte Schmiede. The delivery takes place for customers in the house. Everyone who signs up to participate will be given a number that they can use to win a gift certificate for a local business. There will be a live Facebook event that includes the national anthem and the presentation of a proclamation honoring the older adults in Herkimer County.
For the past several years, local businesses have donated the picnic prizes, but this year organizers are asking community members and organizations to donate gift certificates in $ 10 increments to local businesses to be given as picnic prizes. Meatloaf dinner planned
A meatloaf dinner will sell out from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. or until Wednesday, October 20, at the Ilion First Baptist Church. The menu includes meatloaf, real mashed potatoes, gravy, salad, rolls and dessert for a price of $ 11 per dinner. Meals are only offered for take-away or delivery.
