Troy Tennis Lands International Recruits – The Troy Messenger

Troy’s men’s and women’s tennis teams have recently completed their recruitment courses with some major international signings.

The men’s team finished their signing class and placed #5 in class among middle schools and #38 overall nationally. Troy have landed two Spaniards in Yeray Andres Pastor and Mario Martinez Serrano, both top Spanish players.

Pastor was ranked in the top 100 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) “absolute” rankings. He made it to the third round of the M15 Xativa Tournament, an ITA World Tennis Tour event.

Serrano was ranked the No. 207 player in ITF junior competition and sixth-placed player in Spain in his age group. He finished second in both singles and doubles at the J4 Grand Avignon Tournament and won the J4 Leiria Portugal Tournament in singles.

“I’m really looking forward to this year’s recruiting class,” said Troy men’s coach Rolando Vargas. “I was diligent to make sure we were going deeper in our lineup. Yeray and Mario will make an immediate impression because they are both great players, but more importantly they are great people. You have a strong work ethic which we seek to achieve our goals.”

The Troy women’s tennis team also signed two international prospects last week to complete the 2022 recruit class. The two players joining the women’s team are Egyptian tennis star Maria Guirguis and Russian star Valeriia Avdeeva.

“We are very pleased to welcome both Maria and Valeriia to our Troy tennis family and are delighted that they have chosen to become Troy Trojan,” said Rawaia Elsisi, Troy women’s coach.

Guiguis is from Alexandria, Egypt and comes to Troy as a graduate of the International Liberty School in Egypt. She was also a member of the Egyptian national junior team. In the national team she was number 1 in Egypt and number 158 in the whole world in junior competition. She won nine finals and three trophies during her national competition.

“Maria is a very experienced tennis player from Egypt,” said Elsisi. “She was number 1 in Egypt and represented the Egyptian national junior team. She has had a very successful ITF career and has been No. 158 in the ITF World Junior Ranking and No. 700 for ITF Women. She is very committed to improvement and will make an immediate impact on the team.”

Guirguis is the second Egyptian-born to join Troy’s squad along with Hagar Amin, a native of Cairo, Egypt.

Adeeva is from Saint Petersburg, Russia and graduated from the British School of Barcelona in Spain. Adeeva was ranked as one of the top 650 players in junior competition and she was also a star athlete in both swimming and track and field. She won medals in both swimming and track and field in Spain.

“Valeriia is a very talented and hard-working tennis player from Russia,” said Elsisi. “She has had a successful junior career and is in the ITF Top 650 with a lot of potential. She is highly motivated and comes from a large family. I can’t wait for her to join our team and compete for Troy.”

These new additions complete a truly international roster that defines the Troy men’s and women’s tennis teams. The women’s team now consists of players from Germany, Egypt, Russia, Argentina, England and Finland, while the men’s team has players from Spain, Italy, Uruguay, France, Belgium, Argentina and the United States.
