MAN ARRESTED AFTER PURSUIT WITH STOLEN VEHICLE – An Arlington man was arrested late Tuesday night after a high-speed chase through Wise County. Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin said a Corvette driven by Adrian Gabriel Escalante, 33, was traveling north on US 81/287 south of Decatur around 11 p.m. when a sheriff’s deputy tried to stop after the license plate was on a stolen vehicle had been returned. Escalante turned around in Decatur and continued south at speeds of up to 135 miles per hour as deputies continued the pursuit. Rhome Police Department used spike sticks which disabled two of the car’s tires and reduced the speed to 40mph. Escalante stopped the vehicle near the county line when one of the punctured tires caught fire. He was arrested and charged with evading arrest and using a vehicle without authorization. Jail records show he posted $25,000 bail on Wednesday and was released.3-DIGIT WEEKEND FORECAST — We have a hot weekend ahead, with highs of 100 expected on both Saturday and Sunday. According to the National Weather Service, heat index values between 105 and 110 degrees or more are possible, especially on Saturday.
TRAFFIC ALERTS – Texas 114 (Rock Island Avenue) in Boyd, east of Wilson Street, will be closed Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for maintenance on the Union Pacific Railroad. Also Monday, 3259 Farm Road north of Texas 114 in Paradise will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for railroad maintenance. On the day of the operation, traffic will be diverted at both locations.

FISHING DERBY — The Decatur Rotary Club, in partnership with the United States Forest Service, hosts the annual Black Creek Lake fishing derby on Saturday. Registration starts at 7:30 am.
